Film Analysis on 'Alien' 1979

This past week in class we learnt to distinguish between diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

We also covered the 180 degree rule and how anything exceeding it converts it into a reverse shot. The other crucial information that was learnt was about different transitions (including cut, cutaway, cut in and contrast cut.)

On another note one major activity done this week was a mock analysis of the famous Alien movie. I certainly believe a lot of techniques used we could use and apply if we wish to follow our thriller path for our course work. One thing I really liked was the slow paced camera panning as well as the well thought out effects and written code of the word 'Alien' fading in over the 90 second single edit long shot at the start.
